KS2 Literacy

EBEN – Everybody Every Night

We expect every child to read at home 5 - 6 times a week with a parent/carer. Following this, a parent/carer should sign the home school diary.

For those children who have read all week, an extra reward playtime is given on a Friday afternoon. Additionally, a prize is presented to a child at the end of each term if they have consistently read every week.  Here is an example of a home school diary at TDAJ.

Please see the documents below for further information.

Oxford Reading Tree

We use the Oxford Reading Tree book band levels. Children are frequently listened to and assessed by their teachers and teaching assistants to ensure they are on a comfortable but challenging level. The book band progression system is attached at the bottom of this page.

Reading fluency chart

Both in school and at home, children assess their reading using our fluency reading chart. In lessons, teachers, peers and individuals will rank their reading and give reasons for their choice. A copy is found in your child's Home School Diary and parents can also assess at home.

Power Steps

We recognise the importance of daily phonics for some groups of children. Phonics is embedded into their daily literacy lessons (Power Steps). Have a look at the following videos to see what we have been learning in Power Steps and the fun that's being had whilst learning.
